Dr. Gerhard
Wingender

Dr. Wingender is an accomplished immunologist with more than 20 years of experience in innate and adaptive immunity. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Heidelberg (Germany) before joining the laboratory of Dr. Mitchell Kronenberg as a postdoctoral fellow at the La Jolla Institute for Immunology (LJI, La Jolla, USA). Since 2015, Dr. Wingender has been a Research Group Leader at the Izmir Biomedicine and Genome Center (IBG, Izmir, Turkey). His current research interest is the role of innate-like T cells (iNKT, MAIT, and gd T cells), in the context of lung inflammations, cancer, and autoimmune diseases. Dr. Wingender’s work resulted in 37 peer-reviewed publications (e.g. Journal of Experimental Medicine, Journal of Clinical Investigation, Gastroenterology; h-index: 20) and he is the project coordinator for several national and international grants, including IBG’s ERA Chair project RareBoost and the MSCA-SE project CHIRON.
