An open-access research article led by Dr. Fazel Gorjipour, a NanoBio4Can MSCA Cofund Postdoctoral Programme Fellow at İzmir Biomedicine and Genome Centre, under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Şerif Şentürk, has been published in Results in Chemistry.

The research article titled “Spectral characterization and development of UV, direct fluorescence, and RP-HPLC-FLD assays for quantifying the BUB1 inhibitor BAY-1816032 in serum to support preclinical development” arose from Dr. Gorjipour’s NanoBio4Can project, which investigates targeted liposomal delivery of novel anticancer compounds for malignant pleural mesothelioma. Formulation development requires reliable measurement of drug loading, release, and partitioning in biological media. However, no simple, accessible method existed for BAY-1816032, and mass spectrometry can be costly and technically demanding.

After characterizing the compound’s UV absorption and fluorescence properties, the researchers developed three complementary approaches: UV absorption, direct fluorescence, and reverse-phase high-performance liquid chromatography with fluorescence detection (RP-HPLC-FLD). These methods establish an analytical foundation for liposome optimization, stability and serum-interaction studies, and future preclinical and pharmacokinetic evaluation.
